Worldbuilding Class - Assignment #1 - World of Oz
The Lost Village of Brinkle
In the middle of the Northeastern part of Impassable Desert,
which surrounds the Land of Oz, lies the secret village of Brinkle. Though many
believe that the Impassable Desert is also an inhabitable one, the residents of
Brinkle (or the Brinkies) have adapted to the harsh climate and sand storms by
building their huts out of dry palm tree bark and Lenger-Beetle milk. The small
village is located between Winkie Country and the Land of Ev, and was almost
discovered by accident by Ozma when crossing the desert. However, the village
of Brinkle has been under a spell for past few decades, and is surrounded by a
dome of invisibility, which prevents outsiders from discovering it.
The Brinkies occupy and sustain themselves mainly by hunting for Lenger-Beetles for their flesh and milk, mainly around the foot of Crumple Dune, which is the closest sand mountain west of Brinkle. To the east of the village is the famous Well of Morality, which has been dry for as long as any Brinkie can remember, but is still visited for good fortune on extremely harsh summers. The well is build out of yellow bricks that were left from the paving of the original road to the Emerald city.
In the center of the village, surrounded by the huts of the Brinkies, is the village square, where the mayor of Brinkle, Frilliken, gives his monthly speeches. Frilliken was voted for mayor due to his high stature and his long red hair. His beard is red and grey, and he is loved by all Brinkies, except the hunters (or Flunkers) which do not believe he is making nearly enough efforts to solve the invisibility dome issue, and is far more concerned about his own wealth and status. In his speeches, Friliken addresses important topics like Brinkle newborns, Lenger-Beetle crops, and gives updates on the Brinkle-Korlin quest to break the invisibility spell, and finally end the hardships of finding the village after returning from long Lenger-Beetle hunting trips.
